These old barns we see slipping away were often the center of activity's across the US of A. Families often worked at home or very near home. We used barn, smoke houses and root cellars and Ice houses stored ice as long as possible. They were the ware houses of the past. Now millions of the people that flocked into the cities for a better opportunity and now stuck there and a whole billion dollar trucking and distribution system rose up to meet there needs. Thing have really turned around, haven't they. I could go on but better stop. Take care all. Mike Flake

This picture sums up exactly the way I feel about all of the old barns that have disappeared in the U.S. What a shame! Great photo, Mike.

Hi Norm, I checked your Artist site and did not see the one you mentioned. Did you sell it already?

I hear/see the emotion in this great photo! I have a similar painting called "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" that depicts the same feeling. Great job! v/f

About Mike Flake

Mike Flake

Hello Everyone, I started taking pictures while in 4-H club back in the late 60's. I didn't really get hooked on photography until after dinner one Saturday night. This would have been about 1976 shortly after Kathy and I were married. We were at our friends, Brian and Freda's home, and he showed me his Pentax 35mm camera and started teaching me about depth of field and how to use the manual settings. I went out the next week and bought a used Canon AE-1 programmable. (I just now got it out to look at it and just looking at in makes me feel old.) Anyway I got into doing close-ups for awhile, bought a scanner when they first came out and I started doing photo restoration, self taught using Corel draw. Now I enjoy almost any photo-taking....
